The Magic Carpet

In a busy, crowded market town near the sandy desert, a young boy named Kiran lived with his family. When his grandfather passed away, he left Kiran a small wooden chest. Inside the chest, there wasn’t any gold or silver, just a rolled-up, very dusty old rug.

“What am I supposed to do with an old rug?” Kiran wondered, unrolling it on the floor of his bedroom. The rug had faded purple and gold patterns, and some of the soft tassels on the edges were falling off.

Kiran decided to sit on it. “I guess it is a comfortable place to sit and think,” he said to himself.

He leaned back, closed his eyes, and accidentally sneezed from all the dust! “Ah-choo!” he sneezed loudly, followed quickly by, “Up!”

Suddenly, Kiran felt a strange floating sensation. He opened his eyes and gasped. The old dusty rug was barely touching the wooden floor! It was hovering about an inch in the air!

“Whoa!” Kiran shouted, holding tightly to the edges. “Go up higher!”

In a flash, the rug shot straight up toward the ceiling. Kiran ducked his head just in time! They hovered near the ceiling, swaying gently side to side. Kiran realized that he had inherited a real, magical flying carpet!

He quickly opened his bedroom window. “Out we go!” he cheered.

The magic carpet zoomed out the window and soared higher and higher into the bright blue sky. Kiran watched his entire town shrink down until the buildings looked like tiny toys. They flew over the vast yellow desert, zooming past the hot, sweeping sand dunes. They even flew through a soft, fluffy white cloud, which felt like riding through cool mist.

Kiran laughed louder than he ever had before. The carpet swooped, dipped, and glided smoothly through the clear air, moving exactly where Kiran asked it to go.

After hours of exploring the wonderful skies above his town, Kiran guided the magic carpet back through his bedroom window just as the sun began to set. The carpet rolled itself gently back onto the floor, looking just like an old dusty rug again.

Kiran patted the soft, faded material with a bright smile. He knew the sky was vast, and he couldn’t wait to see where his grandfather’s magic carpet would take him tomorrow.
